Teen substance abuse is on the rise. One in three children start drinking by eighth grade, and 1 out of 20 high school students take opiates for non-medical reasons. Adolesence can be a tough time for teens and their parents. This stage of development is even more difficult when the threat of substance abuse is present.
- Beginning January 20, Ascension/Affinity Behavioral Health will be providing Adolescent Substance Abuse Services – both assessments and individual appointment sessions – within the Catalpa location.
- We will be starting with Friday appointments (bi-weekly) initially and add additional days as needed.
Providers at this location will be :
- Sonya VanBemmel, CSAC, ICS
- Angela Savides, LPC, SAC-IT
Our goal is to educate and empower teens and parents through a comprehensive approach of early intervention and treatment. Often the first step in overcoming teen substance abuse is overcoming stigma. Use and abuse can occur in any home, in any family. It can be an issue for the teen, but it’s equally a problem for most parents and close relatives. Services are now available to catch the problem before it escalates or even prevent use in the first place.
